Today, Veterans Day 2014, dozens of pop culture’s most iconic figures will gather at the National Mall for “The Concert for Valor.” Consisting of a series of performances and tributes celebrating the sacrifices made by veterans and their families, this event, which will be broadcast live on HBO, is the first of its kind. With 100% of its proceeds going to organizations that assists veterans with education, wellness, reemployment and reintegration, it is a festive way to ring in Veterans Day.

Getting interviewed on their Washington D.C. Student Tour. Oh the surprises of Educational Travel.

While taking in the National Mall during their Washington, D.C. student tour, a group of Brightspark travelers was lucky enough to catch a sneak preview of the production. Jessie J., the British Soul and Pop singer whose debut album Who You Are topped international charts, put on a rehearsal performance. Students watched as she performed her newest hit single, Bang Bang, which was originally recorded with vocalist Ariana Grande and rapper Nicki Minaj.

To top it off, several group members were interviewed by my9 and WUSA, two local news sources. Their educational travel experiences and their excitement for the bonus rehearsal were captured on air!

With performers like the Black Keys, Eminem, Rihanna and Bruce Springsteen, and special guests such as Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Meryl Streep, this concert is as a can’t-miss event. Even though it wasn’t on their itinerary, we’re glad our group was able to add this inspirational experience to their Washington D.C. student tour.
