Originally founded by Jack White in Detroit, MI in 2001. In March of 2009 a physical location was established in Nashville, TN. Third Man Records in its current state contains a record store, record label offices, photo studio, dark room and live venue with analog recording booth.
Choirs & Bands at Third Man Records
While normally closed to the public, Third Man has partnered exclusively with Brightspark to bring in high school bands and choirs to show them the inner workings of a modern record label. Groups will receive an informative tour of the colorful building and enjoy an in-depth Q&A with Third Man’s head of production.
On top of that, your group will record two songs for a vinyl record pressed in your school colors! Using the same room that’s featured the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis, the Raconteurs, Conan O’Brien, Feist and many others, your group will experience firsthand the methods and workings of a real recording session. Each student will receive a copy of the 7” 45rpm vinyl record and the group will receive a plaque of one of the records for display in their band room or trophy case.
You and your group will record in the Third Man Records Live Recording Studio. While here, you will be recording in the same room that has housed performances by Jerry Lee Lewis, the Raconteurs, Conan O’Brien, Feist and many others.
This isn’t singing into your laptop at home. Third Man’s staff of experienced, professional audio engineers will make sure your group’s recording is as crisp and clear as your original performance.
If you’ve ever experienced the tactile joy that can come from removing a record from its sleeve, placing it on your turntable, and carefully setting the needle in place – you know that CD’s and MP3’s just can’t compete. Now imagine that once the needle hits the grooves you hear your choir, band, or orchestra start streaming from the speakers. School Choirs & Bands at Third Man just might be the next best thing to getting signed.
Not only will you be able to record in the exclusive live recording studio of one of America’s most innovative record labels and receive a 7” 45rpm record of your performance, you’ll be able to get a true behind-the-scenes look at the recording industry. You’ll see parts of the studio usually reserved only for music professionals while having a Q&A session with someone currently working in the industry. This is an invaluable opportunity to gain insight into an exciting industry and find out about what it’s like to work on all sides of the microphone.
