Dublin

The country’s political and cultural capital, Dublin has a rich heritage waiting to be explored. Enjoy an afternoon at the beautiful Dublin Castle or view the famed Book of Kells at Trinity College.

Giant's Causeway

The iconic Giant's Causeway is an internationally famous World Heritage site, consisting of about 40,000 interlocking, mostly hexagonal basalt columns; the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. The Causeway itself is stunning and the site offers breathtaking views - no wonder it is Northern Ireland's most popular tourist attraction.

Belfast

The capital of Northern Ireland, Belfast is an industrial stronghold and a cosmopolitan center for art, culture and business. The city has undergone substantial expansion and regeneration in recent years, mixing stylish urban design with Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian architecture.

Derry

Beautiful Derry (or Londonderry)is Northern Ireland's fourth largest city and the only completely walled city in the British Isles. Derry is a center of culture and creativity, famous for its confident modern outlook and the quality of its hospitality. In 2013, Derry will become the first city to be designated UK City of Culture.

 

Day 1 ~ United States * Belfast

Fly to Belfast, Northern Ireland

Wander around the town of Belfast exploring, comparing architecture and culture

 

Day 2 ~ Belfast * Derry

Explore the streets of Belfast along Falls Road and Shankill Road

Drive the coastal route, stopping to see Ballycastle and Portrush

Visit Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland’s iconic World Heritage Site, home to a wealth of local history and legend

Search for the distinctive stone formations fancifully known as Camel, Harp and Organ

Travel on to Derry for dinner

 

Day 3 ~ Derry

Walk the streets of Derry discovering the history behind the walled city

Experience the wonder of the murals by the Bogside Artists

Visit the Museum of Free Derry and learn about the civil rights era of the 1960s and troubles of the 1970s of the area

Visit the Tower Museum at Union Hall Place, and view “The Story of Derry” exhibit and “An Armada Shipwreck – La Trinidad Valencera” exhibit

 

Day 4 ~ Derry * Dublin

Head towards Dublin by way of the Ulster American Folk Park, an outdoor museum that tells a story of emigration

Explore Loughcrew, the site of Neolithic passage tombs, dating back to 3300 BC

Onto Dublin for dinner

 

Day 5 ~ Dublin

Visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral, built in honor of Ireland’s patron saint

Travel to Trinity College Library and view the Book of Kells, an illuminated manuscript containing the four Gospels of the New Testament, written in Latin

Experience Irish art, culture and natural history at the National Museum of Ireland

 

Day 6 ~ Dublin

Visit the Kilmainham Jail, notorious for its harsh treatment of prisoners in the 19th century

Explore the city on foot and then head to the Irish Dance Party to learn some basic Irish group dances, listen to Irish musicians and watch performances by award winning Irish dancers

 

Day 7 ~ Dublin * United States
